We are pleased to announce that the first Waverley Lakes parkrun took place on Saturday 18th April with 432 participants taking part in it’s first ever event, making it the busiest inaugural parkrun in Yorkshire since 2019!
The parkrun has been a year in the making after linking up with a dedicated local resident and the Handsworth Hog’s who organise the annual Waverley Dash. It was great to see so many local residents, the wider community and even some runners from further afield in attendance.
A global initiative, parkrun is a free to use community based 5km run, jog or walks held in open spaces or parks worldwide, welcoming participants of all ages and abilities.
Waverley Lakes parkrun is another activity that residents now have access to, improving physical and mental well being and offering a sense of belonging. The event also encourages the community to volunteer as marshals, pacers, event directors and report writers, helping to bring this fabulous community together in beautiful surroundings.
